History was made this weekend at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium as the John Melvin Christian College Mangos opened their inaugural season in unforgettable fashion—completing a three-game home sweep of Daytona Beach Christian University (DBCU) Baseball.

From dominant pitching performances to timely hitting and flawless defense, the Mangos sent a clear message: this program has arrived.

Game 1: Pitching Dominance Sets the Tone (JMCC 4, DBCU 0)

Friday night’s season opener showcased elite pitching and clean execution. JMCC Mangos defeated DBCU 4–0 behind a combined shutout from Jacob Jewett, Edwin Feliciano, and Tristan Lopez.

  • Jewett set the tone, allowing just three hits over four scoreless innings while striking out four.

  • Feliciano earned the win, surrendering only one hit across four shutout innings.

  • Lopez closed the door, inducing a clutch double play for the final out to secure the save.

Offensively, the Mangos struck early. Oskar Capote opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Derek Gomez delivered from the eight spot in the lineup, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The defense was flawless—no errors, two double plays, and a steady presence from Eddie Otero, who handled nine chances in the field.

Game 2: O’Neill and Gomez Ignite Offensive Explosion (JMCC 13, DBCU 3)

Saturday’s first game saw the Mangos flip momentum in spectacular fashion.

After falling behind early, JMCC erupted for six runs in the fourth inning and another six in the sixth, pulling away for a 13–3 victory.

  • Nathan O’Neill was unstoppable, driving in four runs on three hits, including two-run singles in both the fourth and sixth innings.

  • Derek Gomez matched him with four RBIs, delivering clutch hits in key moments.

On the mound:

  • Jakob Wilson earned the win with a clean inning of relief.

  • Alex Polanco and Jason Murphy followed with scoreless outings to seal the game.

JMCC piled up 10 hits, played error-free baseball, and showed depth up and down the lineup.

Game 3: Eddie Smith Delivers the Knockout (JMCC 10, DBCU 1)

The series finale was capped with a statement performance as JMCC cruised to a 10–1 win.

The highlight: Eddie Smith’s three-run home run in the fifth inning that broke the game wide open. Smith finished with four RBIs, providing the exclamation point on a dominant weekend.

Pitching remained stellar:

  • Daniel Ortiz allowed just one run over three innings as the starter.

  • Elijah Rivera, Matthew Sosa, Elijah Guzman, and Jorwil Millan combined for scoreless relief innings.

Offensively:

  • Jesus Barreto and Eddie Otero each collected two hits.

  • The Mangos showed patience at the plate with nine walks and aggression on the bases with four stolen bases.

Once again, the defense was airtight—zero errors.

A Weekend to Remember

Across three games, the JMCC Mangos:

  • Went 3–0

  • Allowed just four total runs

  • Committed zero errors

  • Showcased depth in pitching, discipline at the plate, and speed on the bases

For a program playing its first-ever home series, this weekend was more than a sweep—it was a declaration.

🍊⚾ The JMCC Mangos are officially underway, carrying momentum, confidence, and a growing buzz around a program built the right way.
